Knowledge Base
What feeds your brand's knowledge base, how it grounds scans and content, and how to add sources and bookmarks.
Your knowledge base is everything Pendium has learned about your brand — your website, documents you add, and pages you bookmark. It's the source of truth that grounds your scans, your content, and your AI agent, so the more it knows, the more accurate and on-brand everything downstream becomes.
In the app it's under Business Info → Knowledge, on the Sources tab.
What's in it
Pendium ingests several kinds of sources into your knowledge base:
- Your website — crawled automatically during onboarding to seed the base.
- Uploaded documents — PDFs, docs, and pasted text you add yourself.
- Google Docs — connected documents.
- Bookmarks — pages you point Pendium at to research (see below).
The Sources tab groups your sources by rank:
- Your documents: files, Google Docs and text you added.
- Your live site: the pages Pendium read from your website, and its site map.
- The wider web: other sites you pointed Pendium at, such as bookmarked pages, used as reference.
Each row shows what the source gives Pendium (pages read, and for your site the facts found) and when it was last read. A panel beside your site shows how many pages were found and read, how many facts Pendium holds, and the pages read most recently. The More menu on each row has View, Read again, Edit and Remove.
Each source shows its processing status. While it processes, it shows the step it's on: Fetching (reading the pages, file, or Google Doc), Reading (splitting the text into passages), then Indexing. Every source ends completed or failed. A failed source says why, for example "The site refused our reader (403)." or "The file has no readable text.", and has a Retry button that runs it again. If some pages of a crawled site can't be read, the source still completes with the pages that could be, and says how many were skipped. A source that makes no progress for an hour is marked failed, so you can retry it.
Once processed, content is broken into chunks and indexed for semantic search — so retrieval matches on meaning, not just keywords.
On Starter and Pro, Check site now in the panel beside your site reads your site's pages again, updates your facts, and refreshes the Business Knowledge sheet in Fact Sheets when something changed. You can check once a day. It doesn't change your brand voice or company profile, and if you've edited the Business Knowledge sheet by hand, your version stays as you wrote it while the facts still update.
When Pendium reads a source again, pages whose content hasn't changed keep what was already learned from them: they aren't indexed or analyzed for facts again, and only their read date moves. Changed and new pages are processed in full. A source that has been read more than once shows what its last read found, for example "Last read: 1 changed, 39 unchanged".
Bookmarks
A bookmark is a URL (or a search term) you hand to Pendium to analyze and fold into your knowledge. Pendium scrapes the page, and — when you point it at a topic you care about — runs a competitive gap analysis against your own content. Bookmarks are great for capturing competitor pages, cited sources from a scan, or any reference you want your content grounded in. Add one from the Knowledge page; it's processed in the background and joins your knowledge base when ready.
How it's used
The knowledge base grounds the three things that matter most:
- Content generation: every workflow on Create retrieves relevant knowledge when drafting outlines and posts, so content reflects real facts about your brand instead of generic filler.
- Brand understanding — Pendium extracts your factsheet, brand voice, and company profile from your knowledge, which in turn shape your visibility scans.
- Your AI agent — the agent (and any MCP client) can search your knowledge base directly with
query_knowledgeand list sources withlist_knowledge_sources.
Adding and managing sources
From Business Info → Knowledge:
- Add Knowledge — paste a URL, upload files, add text, connect Google Docs, or add a bookmark.
- View Knowledge — see every source, its type and status, and remove anything that's no longer relevant.
Removing a source stops Pendium from using what it learned from it right away. On a paid plan, your business summary (the Business Knowledge sheet in Fact Sheets) is then rebuilt from the sources that are left, about a minute later; removing several sources at once rebuilds it once.
Upload files takes PDF, Word (.docx), PowerPoint (.pptx), Markdown, plain text and call transcripts (.vtt, .srt), up to 50 MB each. A file of another type or over 50 MB is turned away before it uploads. Each page or slide is read separately, and a transcript is read as speaker turns ("Maya: ..."). Uploaded files are searchable in chat and drafts; facts aren't pulled from them yet. Removing a file's source also deletes the uploaded file.
Processing a source runs AI work that counts toward your plan's usage. A richer knowledge base produces better scans and content, so it's worth keeping current as your brand evolves.
